Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Exterior Engineering Team, focusing on designing and developing crucial vehicle components. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on Tesla's innovative electric vehicles, specifically handling exterior components including Front & Rear Fascia Assemblies, Underbody, Underhood, and trim components.

Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Exteriors

  • Concept engineering and feasibility
  • Packaging and layout within vehicle architecture
  • Design to deliver customer-driven exterior system targets
  • Participate in iterative process with Tesla design studio
  • Detail design including surface development and structures
  • Interpret CAE simulation results
  • Collaborate with suppliers for DFM, MoldFlow and tooling design
  • Work with plastics engineering for optimum layout
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for manufacturing and assembly

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Exteriors

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Catia V5/V6 experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of plastic part design and injection molding
  • Experience managing suppliers for product development
  • Experience with DFSS methodologies
  • Understanding of low and high-volume production requirements
  • Familiarity with specifications, DFMEAs, DVP&R's
