Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Exterior Engineering Team to lead the design and development of vehicle exterior components. This role focuses on creating and implementing designs for Front & Rear Fascia Assemblies, Underbody, Underhood, and trim components. The position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge electric vehicle technology while collaborating with Tesla's innovative design studio and cross-functional engineering teams.

The role combines creative design work with technical engineering expertise, requiring strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and experience with automotive manufacturing processes. Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Exteriors

  • Design, prototype, validate, release, and launch exterior components
  • Concept engineering and feasibility assessment
  • Packaging and layout within vehicle architecture
  • Design exterior systems for craftsmanship, function, cost, and weight
  • Collaborate with Tesla design studio for form vs. function optimization
  • Detail design including surface development and structures
  • Interpret CAE simulation results
  • Work with suppliers for DFM, MoldFlow and tooling design
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for manufacturing and assembly

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Exteriors

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Catia V5/V6 experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Basic knowledge of large plastic part design and injection molding
  • Experience managing suppliers for product development
  • Experience with DFSS methodologies
  • Understanding of low and high-volume production requirements
  • Familiarity with specifications, DFMEAs, DVP&R's development
