Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Low Voltage

Tesla's Low Voltage Distribution team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative engineering team. This role combines creative problem-solving with rigorous engineering principles to develop world-class technologies for Tesla's vehicles and energy storage products. The position involves close collaboration with electrical, firmware, and manufacturing engineers to push the boundaries of what's possible in electrical and thermal performance.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing critical components and mechanisms for electrical connections, developing cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, and performing complex thermal and structural modeling. The role requires a unique blend of technical expertise in mechanical engineering and practical manufacturing knowledge.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in product design and manufacturing, with expertise in processes like injection molding, die casting, and stamping. Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Low Voltage

  • Design mechanical components and mechanisms related to electrical connections
  • Develop novel technologies and manufacturing techniques
  • Perform thermal/structural modeling of components and systems
  • Build prototypes and perform functional validation
  • Work with electrical engineers and PCBA designers for system integration
  • Work with reliability engineers to validate design
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and suppliers for production transition

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Low Voltage

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated successful experience in mechanical engineering within product design and manufacturing
  • Knowledge of high volume manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling, CATIA v5 experience preferred
  • 10-15% travel required
