Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Electronics

Tesla's Power Electronics team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their elite group of engineers working on cutting-edge power converters used across Tesla's entire product range, from vehicles and energy storage to solar and manufacturing. This role combines various aspects of mechanical engineering, including statics & dynamics, fluids & thermals, and mechanics & vibration.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on highly multi-disciplinary projects requiring knowledge of electrical and magnetic physics, and material science. The role involves hands-on experience with prototype builds, engineering testing, and validation of products. You'll be responsible for designing and analyzing structural, thermal, environmental, and insulating aspects of converter components and their electrical connections.

As part of Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy, you'll be working in a fast-paced, challenging environment where your work will have direct impact across multiple product lines. The role requires a first-principles approach to problem-solving and strong design skills, with opportunities to own projects from conception through mass production.

The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $106,400 to $256,200 annually, plus additional cash and stock awards. Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Electronics

  • Modeling and design of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Mechanical design analysis including thermal, CFD, structural, design for assembly
  • Solve electronics packaging issues
  • Develop engineering test plans for designs
  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions
  • Assist in engineering prototype builds
  • Collaborate with other teams to take designs from prototype through mass production

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Electronics

Python
  • Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for reliability concepts
  • Experience using CATIA V5 and/or V6
  • Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring
  • Working knowledge of Matlab, Python and ANYSYS
  • Experience with environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standards
  • Basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with PCBAs and PCBA components
