Tesla is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Autopilot and Electronics Product Design team, focusing on the innovative Tesla Bot project. The position involves leading mechanical system design for compute and connectivity features of the Tesla Bot.
The role combines hands-on engineering with cross-functional collaboration, requiring expertise in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and analysis. You'll be responsible for everything from initial concept development through to mass production, working with cutting-edge technology in robotics and automation.
This position offers competitive compensation ranging from $106,400 to $256,200 annually, plus additional benefits including comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) matching, and stock purchase options. The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, experience with CAD software (particularly Catia), and knowledge of various manufacturing processes. Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Tesla Bot
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and develop implementations
- Participate in prototype builds, component fabrication, testing and validation efforts
- Provide hands-on support and perform data analysis
- Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and assemblies
- Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations
- Create 2D drawings appropriate for production and inspection methods
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers
- Optimize components considering performance, design, integration, size, mass, assembly
- Model and design mechanical components and assemblies
- Support development of engineering and reliability test plans
Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Tesla Bot
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Proficient in CAD, Catia experience preferred
- Knowledge of design of plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping and cast parts
- Experience in drafting 2D drawings with GD&T
- Experience in MATLAB, Python, or other modeling tools preferred
- Proficiency in data visualization and statistical analysis
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic understanding of electrical and thermal design fundamentals
- Experience taking designs from initial concept through to mass production
