Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Integration

Tesla's Product Design Integration team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for Vehicle Integration to join their innovative team. This role is integral to Tesla's vehicle development process, working across all Tesla programs including Model S, X, 3, Y, Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, and Tesla Energy products. The position offers a unique opportunity to work from the earliest stages of product development, establishing architecture and layout while considering all product attributes.

The role involves close collaboration with design engineering, styling, and manufacturing teams to develop compatible designs while optimizing product attributes. You'll be responsible for mechanical design, packaging, and leading integration reviews to ensure all components meet system requirements. The position requires expertise in vehicle systems, energy products, or high voltage battery integration, with hands-on involvement from concept through production.

Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Integration

  • Mechanical design and packaging of components
  • Lead product integration reviews
  • Lead packaging master section development
  • Support and execute virtual builds and physical prototypes
  • Manage top-level product CAD and BOM
  • Mediate trade-off situations to ensure design solutions meet targets

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Integration

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in vehicle system, energy products, high voltage battery or robot integration
  • Experience in full product lifecycle from concept through production
  • Extensive understanding of design principles for functional vehicle systems
  • Knowledge in part manufacturing processes
  • Outstanding design, packaging, and 3D modeling skills
  • CATIA experience (advantage)
  • Experience with product lifecycle management tools (advantage)
  • Strong communication skills
