Tesla is seeking a Powertrain Controls Engineer to join their Vehicle Controls team in developing cutting-edge algorithms for their electric vehicles. This role focuses on ensuring seamless torque delivery across Tesla's vehicle lineup, working on features like Plaid acceleration mode, Self-Driving, and One-Pedal Driving. Responsibilities For Powertrain Controls Engineer, Vehicle Controls

  • Develop control-oriented models of the powertrain, and use them to develop, implement, and refine control strategies
  • Work with Firmware and Integration engineers to implement, test, and debug algorithms
  • Calibrate powertrain performance attributes like pedal response, drive-ability, torque split
  • Improve tools and processes used to calibrate algorithms for future powertrains
  • Work with Mechanical, Electrical, and Firmware Engineers to define control system capability
  • Advance the state-of-the-art in Powertrain Control systems

Requirements For Powertrain Controls Engineer, Vehicle Controls

  • Excellent background in linear systems analysis, state-estimation, and control systems
  • Excellent proficiency with creating controls-oriented dynamic system models
  • Understanding of electric propulsion, motion control systems, and batteries
  • Ability to design, analyze, and implement control systems in real-world applications
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work in fast-paced environment
  • Basic proficiency with embedded firmware development in C/C++
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with vehicle longitudinal performance characteristics (preferred)
