Tesla is seeking a Reliability Engineer for Drive Units Semi with a strong background in complex mechanical systems related to electric vehicle powertrains. This role is crucial in designing reliability into Tesla's ground-breaking drive units for the Tesla Semi. The successful candidate will follow the reliability lifecycle of these products from concept to field operation, ensuring exceptional reliability at every stage.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying reliability methods to design accelerated test plans
  • Analyzing field usage and environmental conditions
  • Facilitating design FMEA sessions
  • Working with cross-functional teams to resolve failures
  • Generating process validation test plans
  • Providing reliability design guidelines

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in complex mechanical/electro-mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of material properties, failure mechanisms, and various testing methods
  • Experience with reliability software and statistical tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities For Reliability Engineer, Drive Unit, Semi

  • Apply reliability methods to design accelerated test plans for design validation and reliability growth demonstration
  • Analyze field usage and environmental conditions to optimize requirement setting and test methods
  • Facilitate and lead design FMEA sessions to assess product risks and determine validation test plans
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures
  • Generate process validation test plans to implement at suppliers
  • Drive root cause corrective action with suppliers to resolve production process issues
  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply lessons learned for continuous improvement

Requirements For Reliability Engineer, Drive Unit, Semi

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in complex mechanical/electro-mechanical systems related to tribology, powertrain technologies, automotive gearbox, bearings, or other rotatory machines
  • Solid knowledge of material properties and failure mechanisms for rotatory machines
  • Experience with fatigue testing, vibration testing, durability test development for powertrain systems
  • Knowledge of burn-in testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), Ongoing Reliability Testing (ORT)
  • Knowledge of ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA
  • Working knowledge of applied statistics and experience with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab, etc.
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques
  • Self-driven and focused individual with ability to manage parallel tasks effectively
  • Proven ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances
