As a Sr. Battery Mechanical Design Engineer in the Battery Module Design Team, you'll play a crucial role in designing world-class battery systems that power Tesla's energy products.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team that approaches battery system design from first principles. You'll be responsible for end-to-end ownership of battery system designs, from blank-page concepts to top-level system implementation. The role demands strong collaborative skills, as you'll work closely with various teams including systems engineering, electrical/firmware engineering, validation test, manufacturing, and service.

The ideal candidate brings at least 3 years of product design experience and deep expertise in mechanical engineering, particularly in CAD modeling and structural analysis. Your understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and battery cell fundamentals will be essential in creating innovative solutions that meet Tesla's high standards for performance and reliability.

This role offers competitive compensation ranging from $104,000 to $204,000 annually, plus additional cash and stock awards. Responsibilities For Sr. Battery Mechanical Design Engineer, Energy Products

  • End-to-end ownership of battery system designs for Tesla Energy products
  • Component and system mechanical design ownership of entire battery systems
  • Build-to-print mechanical design component design ownership
  • Develop and execute component and subsystem design validation plans
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and specifications
  • Develop trade studies to guide management level decisions for future product roadmap

Requirements For Sr. Battery Mechanical Design Engineer, Energy Products

  • Minimum of 3 years of product design experience
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling, CATIA V5/6 a plus
  • Experience designing for high volume production
  • Experience in structural analysis including structural FEA
  • Understanding of material science of components
  • Proficiency in GD&T and tolerances
  • Familiarity with battery cell manufacturing and design preferred
