Description For Sr. Cell Materials Engineer, Cell Development

Tesla is seeking a Senior Cell Materials Engineer to join their Battery Cell Development team in Palo Alto. This role is crucial as battery cells are fundamental to all Tesla products. The position involves leading technical aspects of cell materials and mechanical components in development projects with external cell suppliers. The ideal candidate will bridge existing materials engineers and component owners while working with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities For Sr. Cell Materials Engineer, Cell Development

  • Serve as technical lead for cell materials and mechanical components in development projects with external cell suppliers
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate and benchmark new materials, components and cell designs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead materials from concept to product
  • Identify and troubleshoot materials-related issues during production or testing phases
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate key learnings to cross-functional internal teams

Requirements For Sr. Cell Materials Engineer, Cell Development

  • Background in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar
  • Strong foundation in electrochemistry and materials science
  • Experience in Li-ion cell design, cell manufacturing and/or failure analysis
  • Quarterly international travel to cell and material suppliers is expected
  • Proficiency in Mandarin, Korean or Japanese is a plus
