We seek a highly motivated hands-on Mechanical Engineer for a position in the Manufacturing Test Engineering group as part of the "machine that builds the machine". The group is focused on creating robust, beautiful, data-centric production testing equipment for Tesla's power electronic components in vehicles, stationary storage and charging products.

What You'll Do:
- Architect automated test equipment, produce detailed-level CAD models, pneumatic diagrams, and verify designs using structural and thermal FEA and CFD
- Lead conceptual equipment development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
- Review, identify, and provide feedback on performance, design simplicity, robustness, assembly, and installation
- Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions
- Support building, debugging, validation and equipment duplication efforts, and fine-tune equipment for release to production
- Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality
- Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of test equipment
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers to deliver high quality automation equipment
What You'll Bring:
- 6+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, robotics, and product development
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
- Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, everyday machining, and fabrication processes
- Exposure to a wide variety of test systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment
- Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines
- Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software
- Experience in preparing technical requirements and specifications documents for automated equipment
- Experience in mentoring mechanical engineers and project management is a plus
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
