Description For Sr. Technical Program Manager, Drive Unit

Tesla is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join their Drive Units team, playing a crucial role in advancing automotive electric drivetrain technology. This position represents a unique opportunity to combine engineering expertise with program management skills at the forefront of EV innovation.

The role involves leading new product launches and improvement projects for Tesla's electric vehicle drive units, working directly with Tesla's world-class engineering teams from initial design through to full production. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and project management excellence, as you'll be responsible for managing multiple programs simultaneously while ensuring successful delivery of critical milestones.

As a TPM, you'll be deeply involved in technical aspects of drive unit development, leading root cause investigations, technical reviews, and validation planning. The role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing, assembly, and testing requirements for EV products, along with the ability to identify and manage technical risks effectively.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 4 years of project management experience in complex electro-mechanical products, with a background in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechatronics. Experience in the automotive industry, particularly with drive systems and inverters, is highly valued.

  • Maintain program information and ensure team awareness of deliverables and critical dates
  • Manage build plans across multiple programs and coordinate with cross-functional teams
  • Track key component and program metrics including performance, cost, reliability, mass, and schedule
  • Lead critical action plans for design and quality risks
  • Lead development of testing and validation timelines
  • Manage prototype sourcing and logistics
  • Facilitate logistics and tracking for priority projects
  • Document lessons learned and implement best practices

Requirements For Sr. Technical Program Manager, Drive Unit
