Tesla is seeking a Staff Vehicle Dynamics Engineer to join their innovative automotive team in Palo Alto. As the Subject Matter Expert for Handling, you'll be responsible for Tesla's Handling Attribute Roadmap, ensuring consistent methodologies across vehicle development. This includes both technical aspects like firmware calibration and strategic elements such as target setting and evaluation methodologies. Responsibilities For Staff Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, Handling

  • Work with Vehicle Dynamics team for hardware and software controls integration
  • Work with firmware team to set requirements for high-level control strategies
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for Handling
  • Perform drive assessments and firmware tuning
  • Define handling metrics and objective maneuvers
  • Contribute to control strategies development
  • Contribute to the HMI Roadmap
  • Generate development reports and complete performance Sign-Off
  • Manage a small team of engineers

Requirements For Staff Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, Handling

Python
  • 10+ years of experience in automotive development
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Physics or equivalent experience
  • Direct calibration experience in Traction Control, VDC, ABS, Brake Steer, and other systems
  • Good understanding of model-based control
  • Subjective vehicle performance evaluation skills
  • Vehicle instrumentation and data analysis experience
  • Very good knowledge of common calibration tools such as Vector Canape
  • Proficiency with Simulink, Python, C and similar firmware environment is a plus
