Description For Technical Program Manager, Tooling & Process

Tesla is seeking a Technical Program Manager for Tooling & Process to join their Engineering & Information Technology team. This role is part of the Tooling, Process & Training team, responsible for developing custom service tooling, hardware, and procedures for Tesla Energy's storage and charging solutions. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical and project management background, with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading tool development projects across product families for energy systems
  • Owning the development and deployment of career growth metrics for the Field Service team
  • Partnering with Design Engineering to develop Service BOMs for new tools
  • Managing tooling catalog and planned obsolescence
  • Coordinating new training sessions and assisting in developing sessions from scratch
  • Collaborating with Service Engineers and Engineering Technicians to test new tool designs
  • Supporting quality & reliability analysis efforts

The role requires a degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience), project management skills, experience with complex Bills of Material (BOMs), and ideally, energy industry and supply chain experience.

Responsibilities For Technical Program Manager, Tooling & Process

  • Lead tool development projects across product families related to energy systems
  • Own the development and deployment of career growth metrics workstream for the Field Service team
  • Partner with Design Engineering to develop the Service BOM for new tools and manage the tooling catalog
  • Own the development and deployment of new tools, including supply chain, inventory management, and global tracking
  • Own planned obsolescence: Analyze tool design changes for supersession and backward compatibility
  • Coordinate new training sessions and assist in developing sessions from scratch
  • Collaborate with Service Engineers and Engineering Technicians to test new tool designs
  • Support quality & reliability analysis efforts and shepherd tool design iteration
  • Create, structure, and maintain Service BOMs for top-level assemblies

Requirements For Technical Program Manager, Tooling & Process

  • Degree in Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience analyzing Engineering design changes and working with complex Bills of Material (BOMs)
  • Energy industry and supply chain experience related to design, manufacturing, and Energy repair (a plus)
  • CAD experience (a plus)
