Description For Technical Program Manager, Tooling & Process

The Tooling, Process & Training team at Tesla is seeking a Technical Program Manager for Tooling & Process. This role is responsible for developing custom service tooling, hardware, and procedures to assist in the rapid development and maintenance of Tesla Energy's storage and charging solutions. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical and project management background, along with experience collaborating with broad cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading tool development projects across product families related to energy systems
  • Owning the development and deployment of career growth metrics for the Field Service team
  • Partnering with Design Engineering to develop Service BOM for new tools and manage the tooling catalog
  • Owning the development and deployment of new tools, including supply chain, inventory management, and global tracking
  • Managing planned obsolescence and analyzing tool design changes
  • Coordinating new training sessions and assisting in developing sessions from scratch
  • Collaborating with Service Engineers and Engineering Technicians to test new tool designs
  • Supporting quality & reliability analysis efforts
  • Creating and maintaining Service BOMs for top-level assemblies

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience analyzing Engineering design changes and working with complex Bills of Material (BOMs)
  • Energy industry and supply chain experience (a plus)

Responsibilities For Technical Program Manager, Tooling & Process

  • Lead tool development projects across product families related to one or more energy systems
  • Own the development and deployment of career growth metrics workstream for the Field Service team
  • Partner with Design Engineering to develop the Service BOM for new tools and manage the tooling catalog
  • Own the development and deployment of new tools – supply chain, inventory management, and global tracking
  • Own planned obsolescence: Analyze tool design changes to determine supersession and backward compatibility
  • Coordinate new training sessions, including lodging, travel, and other arrangements
  • Assist in developing training sessions from scratch in collaboration with the Engineering team
  • Collaborate with Service Engineers and Engineering Technicians to test new tool designs for serviceability
  • Support quality & reliability analysis efforts and shepherd tool design iteration
  • Create, structure, and maintain Service BOMs for top-level assemblies

Requirements For Technical Program Manager, Tooling & Process

  • Degree in Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Project Management experience balancing time across several projects
  • Experience working cross-functionally with technical, supply chain & training teams
  • Experience analyzing Engineering design changes and working with complex Bills of Material (BOMs)
  • CAD experience (a plus)
  • Energy industry and supply chain experience related to design, manufacturing, and Energy repair (a plus)
