Tesla's Abuse Testing & Engineering group is seeking a Test Engineer to join their team at a remote off-grid test site near the Nevada Gigafactory. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and reliability of Tesla's battery systems across all products. The position involves working with specialized equipment to conduct electrical, mechanical, and thermal stress tests on battery systems.

The role combines hands-on technical work with strategic thinking, requiring expertise in building and maintaining test equipment, coordinating destructive tests, and managing hazardous lifetime tests. You'll be part of a dynamic team that provides critical feedback for early-stage product development, focusing on both regulatory compliance and internal requirements.

Responsibilities For Test Engineer, Abuse Engineering

  • Coordinate and execute abusive tests across multiple programs
  • Build test equipment including car crushers, battery chargers, and data sensors
  • Recognize and propose improvements to test site and equipment
  • Troubleshoot issues with test equipment and sensors
  • Maintain facility and ensure smooth operation
  • Communicate with remote teams for test coordination
  • Coordinate daily technician activities

Requirements For Test Engineer, Abuse Engineering

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience working in the field
  • Must be mentally tough, excellent at field work in variable conditions
  • Experience with equipment commissioning, construction, testing
  • Bonus: Experience with programming (Python), electrical communications (CAN), or battery cycling equipment
