Description For Test Engineer, Axle Testing, Semi

Tesla is seeking a Test Engineer to support dyno test operations with a focus on Semi Axle. As part of the Reliability & Test Engineering Team, you'll be responsible for verifying and validating the thermal, electrical, and mechanical reliability of components and systems throughout our product line. Your role will involve executing reliability testing, maintaining high dyno test uptime, overseeing thermal and electric-mechanical tests, coordinating test demands, collecting and interpreting data, designing and improving lab equipment, conducting failure analysis, and troubleshooting test equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Executing reliability testing for various drive unit programs
  • Maintaining high dyno test uptime and performing routine maintenance
  • Overseeing thermal and electric-mechanical tests
  • Coordinating test demands across multiple teams and programs
  • Collecting and interpreting data from various acquisition systems
  • Designing and improving lab equipment and infrastructure
  • Conducting failure analysis and providing detailed reports
  • Designing, debugging, and troubleshooting test equipment

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of basic electrical tools
  • 1-3 years of programming experience (Python preferred)
  • 0-2 years of industry experience in automotive, aerospace, or consumer product testing
  • Aptitude in dynamometer testing, low-voltage electrical systems, high voltage battery systems, and CAN communications protocol

  • Oversee and assist with the set-up and execution of thermal, electric-mechanical tests
  • Coordinate test demands to meet the needs of multiple teams and programs
  • Collect and interpret data from a variety of data acquisition systems
  • Design and improve mechanical and electrical equipment and infrastructure in the lab
  • Conduct failure analysis and provide detailed information surrounding failures
  • Design, debug, and troubleshoot test equipment
  • Perform hands-on tasks to complete the job

Python
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of basic electrical tools
  • 1-3 years of programming required (any language, Python preferred)
  • 0-2 years of industry experience in automotive, aerospace, or consumer product testing
