Responsibilities For Thermal Controls Engineer, Vehicle Controls
- Design, simulate, and implement algorithms for thermal management of powertrain, battery-packs, heat pump, and cabin HVAC systems
- Develop control-oriented system models and refine control strategies
- Work with Firmware, Integration and Hardware Engineers to implement, test, and debug algorithms
- Monitor and investigate customer feedback on climate control performance
- Plan and execute test-trips to resolve algorithm performance issues
- Collaborate with reliability engineering for fleet data queries
- Provide input to HVAC Hardware Engineering teams
- Drive Tesla vehicles daily to identify bugs and improvements
- Advance thermal and HVAC Control systems
Requirements For Thermal Controls Engineer, Vehicle Controls
- Background in linear systems analysis, observers and state-estimation
- Proficiency with controls-oriented dynamic system models in Matlab/Simulink/Python
- Experience in designing and implementing real-world control systems
- Strong fundamentals of heat-transfer and thermodynamics
- Proficiency with large data sets analysis in MATLAB/Python
- Cross-functional collaboration ability
- Basic proficiency with Embedded Firmware development in C/C++
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
