Responsibilities For Thermal Controls Engineer, Vehicle Controls

  • Design, simulate, and implement algorithms for thermal management of powertrain, battery-packs, heat pump, and cabin HVAC systems
  • Develop control-oriented system models and refine control strategies
  • Work with Firmware, Integration and Hardware Engineers to implement, test, and debug algorithms
  • Monitor and investigate customer feedback on climate control performance
  • Plan and execute test-trips to resolve algorithm performance issues
  • Collaborate with reliability engineering for fleet data queries
  • Provide input to HVAC Hardware Engineering teams
  • Drive Tesla vehicles daily to identify bugs and improvements
  • Advance thermal and HVAC Control systems

Requirements For Thermal Controls Engineer, Vehicle Controls

Python
  • Background in linear systems analysis, observers and state-estimation
  • Proficiency with controls-oriented dynamic system models in Matlab/Simulink/Python
  • Experience in designing and implementing real-world control systems
  • Strong fundamentals of heat-transfer and thermodynamics
  • Proficiency with large data sets analysis in MATLAB/Python
  • Cross-functional collaboration ability
  • Basic proficiency with Embedded Firmware development in C/C++
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
