Description For Thermal Engineer, Vehicle Engineering, Semi

Thermal Engineering at Tesla is responsible for system level thermal architecture supporting the cabin, battery, and powertrain across all Tesla vehicles. The team works on innovative projects like the Tesla Heat Pump, Supermanifold, Octovalve, Superbottle, Airwave, and Bioweapon Defense Mode. As a Thermal Engineer in the Vehicle Engineering team for Semi, you'll be part of a multi-disciplinary team working on all phases of development from idea inception through production and fleet support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Testing: instrumentation, data acquisition, and processing of vehicle HVAC, coolant, refrigerant, and other thermal systems
  • Analysis: thermal model development for hardware optimization, controls, and diagnostics
  • Contributing to vehicle efficiency, performance, supercharge capability, occupant comfort, and NVH improvements

You'll need:

  • Excellent first principles understanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics with relevant experience
  • Experience in developing numerical models and experimental characterization of thermal/fluid systems and heat exchangers
