Description For Vehicle Engineering Technician, Autopilot Test

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Vehicle Engineering Technician for Autopilot Test to accelerate vehicle-level testing of autonomous vehicles. This role involves supporting Tesla's development team with vehicle-level testing, fabrication of test instrumentation, and vehicle fleet maintenance. The ideal candidate should be highly organized and capable of managing multiple time-critical projects simultaneously in a dynamic schedule.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Executing test procedures for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Vehicle Dynamics, and Range
  • Preparing vehicles for testing, including instrumentation installation and diagnostics
  • Designing and building new instrumentation or test equipment
  • Leading on & off-site test trips and managing other technicians
  • Working with internal and external test labs and proving grounds
  • Mentoring less-experienced technicians and operators
  • Documenting test results and communicating issues to lead engineers

The role requires:

  • A 2-year automotive degree or equivalent technical credentials
  • In-depth knowledge of modern vehicle systems
  • Experience with vehicle testing, particularly in Vehicle Dynamics, Chassis Dynos, or Autonomous Vehicles (preferred)
  • Fabrication skills (preferred)
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Comfort driving prototype vehicles at their limits on closed courses
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

This full-time position involves up to 30% travel to various domestic and international locations for vehicle testing on public roads, test tracks, and proving grounds.
