Description For R&D Engineer

Textum OPCO, LLC is hiring an R&D Engineer for its Belmont, NC textile manufacturing operation. The role involves supporting both internally and externally funded research and development activities related to textile design and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, building, and working with materials; interfacing with vendors, technicians, and peers; and communicating challenges, identifying needs, and formulating plans. Responsibilities include technology ideation, defining R&D roadmaps, hands-on fabrication, materials characterization, prototype testing, and transitioning new products from R&D to production. The position requires a Ph.D. in Engineering, with specialization in mechanical, aerospace, composites, textiles, or materials engineering desired. Experience in advanced textile weaving and composite materials is advantageous. The role demands strong spatial reasoning skills, technical aptitude, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be exclusive US Citizens, willing to obtain a US DoD Security Clearance, and pass drug and background checks. Responsibilities For R&D Engineer

  • Perform engineering tasks including process development, prototype fabrication, and program management
  • Technology ideation
  • Help define R&D roadmaps
  • Hands-on fabrication of material specimens and system components
  • Materials characterization
  • Prototype testing
  • Generate and prepare prints, work orders, and other documents
  • R&D scheduling and asset management
  • Integrate with production scheduling and asset management
  • Transition new products from R&D to production
  • Assist with IP creation, documentation, and protection
  • Record data and results accurately
  • Track project cost, schedule, and performance
  • Communicate results internally and externally
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed and maintain a clean environment

Requirements For R&D Engineer

  • Exclusive US Citizenship
  • Willingness to apply for and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance
  • Ph.D. in Engineering
  • 2-5 years experience is a plus
  • Specialization in mechanical, aerospace, composites, textiles, or materials engineering
  • Experience with advanced textile weaving is a plus
  • Experience with composite materials is advantageous
  • Strong spatial reasoning skills
  • General mechanical/technical aptitude and good manual dexterity
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Basic math calculation skills
  • Ability to work well in diverse groups
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to operate hand tools and machinery
  • Pass a drug test
  • Pass a background check
