Software Developer, Sportsbook Wagering (Coop) - W2025

theScore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PENN Entertainment, empowers millions of sports fans through its digital media and sports betting products. Its media app 'theScore' is one of the most popular in North America, delivering fans highly personalized live scores, news, stats, and betting information from their favorite teams, leagues, and players. theScore's sports betting app 'theScore Bet Sportsbook & Casino' delivers an immersive and holistic mobile sports betting and iCasino experience.

As a Software Developer intern on the Sportsbook Wagering team, you will be working with a team of smart, friendly, and dedicated Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to deliver some of the best apps in the market. Your role will involve enhancing and supporting the markets we offer, the bet placement flow, cash out, bet settlement, and many other wagering-related features. This role requires direct collaboration with design, product, frontend, and mobile development teams to define and deliver a first-class sports betting mobile experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, architect, and ship wagering features for our applications
• Implement polished user interfaces with the help of our design team
• Improve code through refactoring and applying modern design patterns
• Collaborate with other engineers through technical discussions and code reviews
• Solve difficult problems related to large data sets and responsive UIs
• Help automate testing and continuous integration

Required Skills:

• Solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design
• Experience with modern web framework and API development (Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, Django, Node)
• Experience with Git and GitHub or similar
• Strong grasp of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL
• Experience with background job processing (Oban, Sidekiq, Celery, RabbitMQ)
• Proficiency in terminal usage and a code editor of your choice
• Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent
