Thorlabs, a global leader in optical technologies, is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer for their Ely, UK facility. This role is crucial in maintaining and improving supplier quality standards across the company's supply chain. The position involves working with Thorlabs' extensive network of suppliers to implement best practices, eliminate waste, and ensure consistent quality in component manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will bring 3+ years of supplier quality engineering experience and a strong educational background in engineering. You'll be working in a state-of-the-art facility just 12 miles from Cambridge, in the historic city of Ely, with excellent transportation links to London.
Your responsibilities will span from conducting on-site supplier visits and implementing corrective actions to developing comprehensive supplier audit programs. You'll work closely with multiple departments including Purchasing, Planning, Quality Engineering, and R&D teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities For Supplier Quality Engineer
- Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis
- Implement corrective action plans to reduce supplier NCRs
- Engage in supply chain improvements
- Utilize continuous improvement tools
- Monitor and analyze supplier quality data
- Rehabilitate underperforming suppliers
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define critical component characteristics
- Develop and manage supplier audit programme
- Produce and present supplier action plan summaries
- Participate in cross-departmental quality initiatives
Requirements For Supplier Quality Engineer
- Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years experience in Supplier Quality Engineering role
- Understanding of Lean principles
- Experience in Supplier quality development
- Knowledge of PPAP & FMEA
- Ability to interpret high precision engineering drawings
- Experience in low volume, high mix manufacturing
- Strong relationship building skills with suppliers
- Project management experience
- Problem-solving abilities
