Thorlabs is seeking a Systems Engineer II to join their Imaging Systems team in Sterling, Virginia. Responsibilities For Systems Engineer II
- Work independently and collaboratively with other engineers to develop systems, prototypes, and tests Life Science Imaging Systems
- Follow prototype designs from conception through manufacture
- Stay abreast of current industry trends and techniques relating to optical design, imaging, microscopy, and precision laser alignment
- Create design documentation including bills of materials, engineering drawings, testing requirements, and specifications
- Interact with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues
- Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports
- Interact with Suppliers and purchasing department concerning supplied and proposed optical components
- Act as a technical expert for both internal and external optical application support requests
Requirements For Systems Engineer II
- BS, MS or PHD in Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, or equivalent
- 5-9 years of optical system integration and development
- Experience with optical design, alignment, and characterization of microscopy systems
- Strong optics knowledge related to theory and design of Imaging Systems
- Solid fundamental knowledge of inverted and upright microscopes
- Hands-on experience with assembly and troubleshooting of optical systems
- Experience using Zemax design software or equivalent
- Experience working in a fast-paced new product development environment
- Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere
- High level of laser safety consciousness
- Experience using optical metrology equipment
- Willingness to occasionally travel to other Thorlabs sites
