Responsibilities For Systems Engineer II

  • Work independently and collaboratively with other engineers to develop systems, prototypes, and tests Life Science Imaging Systems
  • Follow prototype designs from conception through manufacture
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends and techniques relating to optical design, imaging, microscopy, and precision laser alignment
  • Create design documentation including bills of materials, engineering drawings, testing requirements, and specifications
  • Interact with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues
  • Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports
  • Interact with Suppliers and purchasing department concerning supplied and proposed optical components
  • Act as a technical expert for both internal and external optical application support requests

Requirements For Systems Engineer II

  • BS, MS or PHD in Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5-9 years of optical system integration and development
  • Experience with optical design, alignment, and characterization of microscopy systems
  • Strong optics knowledge related to theory and design of Imaging Systems
  • Solid fundamental knowledge of inverted and upright microscopes
  • Hands-on experience with assembly and troubleshooting of optical systems
  • Experience using Zemax design software or equivalent
  • Experience working in a fast-paced new product development environment
  • Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere
  • High level of laser safety consciousness
  • Experience using optical metrology equipment
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to other Thorlabs sites
