Uber Health, a part of Uber for Business (U4B), is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for their Backend team. This role is crucial in architecting large-scale web services that power Uber Health products and systems. The ideal candidate will design reliable, scalable, and extensible backend systems to support new features and launch high-impact, technically challenging projects.

Uber Health's vision is to reimagine healthcare access. Since 2018, they've provided a HIPAA-compliant solution helping patients and caregivers with non-emergency medical transportation. Recently, Uber Health has expanded to become a Health Hub, offering transportation, same-day prescriptions, and home delivery for groceries and over-the-counter items.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Architect, develop, and optimize Uber Health backend systems
  2. Be a thought leader and partner with cross-functional stakeholders
  3. Lead cross-team efforts within U4B
  4. Manage end-to-end product development cycles
  5. Provide technical leadership in designing and implementing next-generation systems
  6. Mentor and advise team members

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Experience in designing large-scale, highly available systems
  • Track record of technical leadership and mentoring
  • Strong software engineering skills with 5+ years in languages like Golang, Python, C++, or Java
  • Experience with distributed systems and databases
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with HIPAA-compliant systems
  • Leadership experience in tackling ambitious problems
