Description For Principal Engineer

Universal Engineering Sciences is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical engineering oversight for their Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing service lines in the Mid-Atlantic region. This senior-level position combines technical leadership with business development, requiring 15-25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing.

The role involves both office (80%) and field work (20%), requiring travel within the Mid-Atlantic region. The Principal Engineer will lead complex projects, mentor team members, and ensure technical excellence across operations. They will work closely with senior management to optimize engineering processes and contribute to business growth.

Key responsibilities include providing technical oversight on complex projects, reviewing engineering reports, mentoring staff, conducting site meetings, and managing client relationships. The ideal candidate will have a PE license, extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, and strong leadership abilities.

The position offers the opportunity to shape technical direction, influence business strategy, and lead a team of professionals in a growing engineering firm. The role requires occasional weekend work and travel, with exposure to various construction site conditions. Responsibilities For Principal Engineer

  • Provide senior technical oversight and expertise on complex proposals and projects
  • Examine engineering reports, lot letters and field recommendations
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to other engineers and project managers
  • Generate reports, recommendations and engineering design documentation
  • Conduct site meetings, estimates, and project recommendations
  • Create and prepare project proposals and technical reports
  • Work with senior management to improve reporting procedures
  • Develop and manage projects ensuring profitability
  • Participate in business development and marketing
  • Review and approve invoices for ongoing projects
  • Maintain excellent communication with team and management

Requirements For Principal Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineering license (PE) in NC & SC
  • 15-25 years of Geotechnical and/or CMT work experience
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing methods
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Boring Log software, AutoCAD
  • Experience with deep foundation software and slope stability software
  • Strong leadership skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs
  • Willing to travel within Mid-Atlantic region
