Description For Operations Mechanical Engineer

unspun is an innovative robotics and digital apparel company on a mission to reduce global carbon emissions through automated, localized manufacturing. As an Operations Mechanical Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and optimizing their revolutionary VegaTM technology, a proprietary 3D weaving and automated textile manufacturing system.

The role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic thinking, requiring you to keep the factory floor running while implementing long-term improvements. You'll serve as the primary troubleshooter for the Vega machines, creating and maintaining documentation, developing KPIs, and working cross-functionally with various teams to enhance operational efficiency.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced startup environment that's been recognized by Time's Best Inventions & Fast Company's World Changing Ideas. The company culture embraces diversity, innovation, and creative problem-solving, with a team comprising designers, engineers, industry veterans, and entrepreneurs from various backgrounds.

The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $135,000 to $153,000 annually, plus equity. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance, 401k, educational grants, and flexible vacation policy. Based in Emeryville, this role requires occasional travel and off-hours work, making it ideal for someone passionate about sustainable manufacturing and ready to tackle complex challenges in a growing company.

The ideal candidate will bring a background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills. While experience in textile manufacturing or 3D weaving is a plus, the company values potential and enthusiasm for learning over complete expertise in all areas. This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to revolutionary manufacturing technology while working towards meaningful environmental impact.
