Founding Senior Engineer (Backend)

Vapi is revolutionizing the voice AI landscape as Apple Intelligence and Google Gemini prepare to bring voice assistants to 4 billion people. The company is building essential infrastructure to help developers bridge the gap between raw models and production-ready voice AI. Having recently launched in March and secured Series A funding, Vapi is expanding its founding team in San Francisco.

As a Founding Senior Engineer (Backend), you'll be instrumental in shaping both the technical architecture and company culture. The role involves working with a modular API-first architecture under real-time low-latency constraints. You'll own features end-to-end, from customer requests through deployment, while working directly with a small but growing team of 17 people.

The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong entrepreneurial spirit. You'll need to be comfortable with Typescript and Node.js, have excellent communication skills, and thrive in a startup environment. This role offers the opportunity to be a foundational team member at a well-funded startup that's already generating revenue and solving real problems in the voice AI space.

The position offers competitive compensation ($150K - $300K) with equity (0.10% - 0.30%), reflecting the senior nature of the role and its importance to the company's future.
