Description For Structural Engineer/Restoration Engineer

Walker Consultants is seeking a mid-level structural engineer for their Los Angeles office. This role involves participating in field investigations of existing buildings, especially parking structures, developing repair calculations, preparing design drawings and specifications, analyzing existing structures, conducting forensics investigations, and writing reports. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design, repair/retrofit design, and structural failure investigation. They should have a PE in their home state and be able to obtain a California PE within the first year of employment.

The role offers opportunities to work on diverse projects, from structural integrity assessments to building envelope analysis. Key responsibilities include leading the preparation of project documents, managing small to medium-sized projects, performing on-site condition assessments, and conducting engineering calculations and structural analyses.

Responsibilities For Structural Engineer/Restoration Engineer

  • Take a leading role in preparation of project documents including development of repair drawings, calculation sheets and assessment reports
  • Manage small to medium size projects
  • Perform on-site condition assessment and investigations
  • Organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving
  • Perform required engineering calculations, structural analysis, and repair/retrofit design
  • Assist clients in preparation of bid package
  • Perform construction administration services during construction
  • Research historical background of diverse structures and building materials, technical specifications, and building code issues
  • Complete technical and investigative reports to support findings and prepare presentations
  • Interface with clients and attend meetings
  • Prepare project proposals
  • May require traveling to jobsites including out-of-state locations

Requirements For Structural Engineer/Restoration Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in civil/structural engineering
  • PE in home state required; able to obtain California PE in the first year of employment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structural design, repair/retrofit design and structural failure investigation
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Background in structural dynamics or related field
  • Fluent in spoken and written English with strong technical writing skills
  • Strong background in using commercially available structural engineering software
