This senior leadership role reports to the Vice President of Engineering and will oversee a global team of 200+ engineers, focusing on Purchase, Post-Purchase, Customer Care, and Communication platforms across 23 countries. The position combines technical leadership with strategic business acumen, requiring 20+ years of industry experience and a proven track record in managing large engineering organizations.
The role involves designing and maintaining next-generation, multi-market technology platforms while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technology initiatives with business objectives. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems, with a particular focus on eCommerce platforms. They will be responsible for building high-performing teams, driving innovation, and ensuring platform reliability and performance.
Working from Walmart's Silicon Valley office in Sunnyvale, CA, this position offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $254,000 to $481,000 annually, plus performance bonuses and stock options. Requirements For Group Director, Software Engineering
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- 20+ years of industry experience in engineering and technology leadership
- 10+ years of experience managing large engineering organizations (200+ engineers)
- Domain expertise in designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems
- In-depth knowledge of large-scale distributed system technologies
- Prior experience in high-growth startups within eCommerce or Marketplace environments
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills
- Proven ability to influence across functional boundaries
- Strong bias toward innovation
- Customer empathy and deep understanding of customer needs
