Wellhub (formerly Gympass) is seeking a Director Software Engineer for their BASE Focus Area team in Brazil. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the core of Wellhub's business model. As a Director Software Engineer, you'll oversee multiple engineering teams, drive technical and business strategy, and be responsible for delivering mission-critical services that power Wellhub's platform.
Your role will involve partnering with senior leadership to influence engineering and product roadmaps, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, and ensuring that critical systems operate at high availability and scalability. You'll be working on challenges such as building flexible systems to accommodate different commercial conditions for users in various contexts, and managing important flows within the business model, including client and user subscriptions.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing managers and guiding multiple teams of software engineers across different locations. You should be proficient in architecting large-scale, multi-tier applications, with familiarity in both monolithic and microservices architectures. Experience with cloud-based solutions like AWS/GCP is essential. Strong mentoring skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals are crucial for this role.

- Oversee, mentor, and guide one or multiple engineering teams and their leads to deliver on large-scale projects with high complexity, ensuring alignment with company goals and strategic priorities
- Partner with senior leadership to influence and drive engineering and product roadmaps, focusing on scalability, innovation, and business value
- Foster engineering excellence by advancing best practices, improving development processes, and ensuring the technical vision remains relevant and actionable
- Work closely with product, operations, and business stakeholders to ensure engineering outputs drive measurable business success

Requirements For Director Software Engineer | BASE Focus Area
- Experienced in managing managers (leads), as well as guiding multiple teams of software engineers across different locations
- Experienced in architecting large-scale multi-tier web applications
- Experienced in designing and developing complex modern web applications
- Proficient in architecting large-scale, multi-tier applications, familiar with both monolithic and microservices architectures
- Experience with cloud-based solutions like AWS/GCP
- Excel in mentoring engineering leads and their teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Experienced in applying computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis
- Experienced in working with SQL/NoSQL technology such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB
- Deep understanding of systems and ability to troubleshoot issues
- Ability to articulate ideas clearly when speaking to groups in English
