Wellhub (formerly Gympass) is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join their CODE (Consumer Digital Experience) Focus Area, specifically the Retention squad in Portugal. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a corporate wellness platform that connects employees to various wellness partners.
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you'll be part of an agile, full-stack team responsible for developing and maintaining Wellhub's App, frontend and backend services, and Design System. Your mission will be to keep users engaged in their wellness journey through recommendations and reinforcing Wellhub's value.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining system architecture and integrations
- Supporting and enhancing existing systems
- Participating in incident resolution and troubleshooting
- Mentoring other developers
- Working with cutting-edge technologies at a global scale
The ideal candidate should have:
- 7+ years of experience with Java, Golang, Kotlin, or Node.js
- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL technologies (PostgreSQL, Redis)
- Solid knowledge of event-driven architectures and serverless computing
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems
- Strong communication skills for working with global, multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities For Senior Backend Software Engineer
- Work within an agile full-stack talented engineering team
- Help to define the architecture of systems and integrations, bring innovation to the table, and make sure design docs are up to date
- Support existing systems looking to enhance functionality, increase scale, and transform in new ways to meet our product demands
- Take part in incident resolution and troubleshooting in the production environment, as well as in writing useful and critical post-mortems
- Help and mentor other developers
- Work with cutting-edge technologies and edge cases on a global scale
- Follow-up engineering and product KPIs

Requirements For Senior Backend Software Engineer
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in designing and developing modern web applications
- Proficient in one or more programming languages (Java / Golang / Kotlin/ Node.js) Golang and Kotlin will both be considered a plus
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies, such as PostgreSQL, Redis
- Solid architecture knowledge (event-driven architectures; serverless)
- Being open to new experiences, willing to learn and grow
- Communication skills to work with multidisciplinary teams located in several countries with different cultures
- A believer in automation (be it tests, CI/CD, or something else entirely)
- Intermediate or advanced proficiency in English
- Experience working with Kotlin, Node.js, Golang, or Java, microservices, and distributed systems
