Senior Specialist Software Engineer | Billing Team

Wellhub (formerly Gympass) is seeking a Senior Specialist Backend Engineer for their Billing team in Portugal. This role is crucial in managing the platform that serves the entire Wellhub business, processing millions of transactions for users and companies globally.

As a Senior Specialist Backend Engineer, you'll be responsible for researching, architecting, planning, and executing strategic projects alongside an A-Players software engineering team. Your work will directly influence B2B and B2C checkout conversion worldwide by creating new calculation mechanisms and improving existing ones to support Wellhub's exponential growth.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Working on loosely defined project scopes, elaborating strategies to deliver solutions that balance features and time to market.
2. Collaborating with Product Managers, Product Designers, and cross-functional teams.
3. Nurturing and coaching less senior engineers to accelerate their learning curve and reach their full potential.
4. Solving scalability problems, designing system architecture, and ensuring high code quality.

The ideal candidate should have:

• Experience with microservices and high-volume distributed systems
• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin with Spring
• Experience with event-driven and cloud-based architectures (AWS and GCP)
• Extensive experience designing and developing complex modern web applications
• Experience in developing RESTful web services
• Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB)
• Exceptional communication skills
• Advanced English proficiency
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience
