Description For Staff Battery Engineer

WHOOP is seeking a Staff Battery Engineer to join their mission of unlocking human performance. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of battery systems in WHOOP's products. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and testing labs to maintain current product lines and contribute to advanced development projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading quality control initiatives for current product lines
  • Qualifying and evaluating new suppliers
  • Conducting field quality assessments
  • Developing and executing test plans for battery systems
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance (UL, CE, IEC)
  • Participating in system reviews, DFMEA, and risk assessments
  • Managing the battery subsystem team

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Masters preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in quality control, failure analysis, or sustaining engineering
  • Strong understanding of Lithium Ion Cell design and battery chemistry
  • Expertise in regulatory certifications and testing requirements
  • Proficiency in technical writing and communication
  • Experience in mentoring and team management
  • Familiarity with scripting and data visualization (Python preferred)
  • Experience working with battery suppliers

This role is based in WHOOP's Boston, MA office, and the successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary. Responsibilities For Staff Battery Engineer

  • Manage the battery subsystem team

Requirements For Staff Battery Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related field (Masters preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in quality control, failure analysis, or sustaining engineering, particularly in battery-powered devices
  • Strong understanding of Lithium Ion Cell design and battery chemistry
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory certifications and testing requirements (e.g., UL, CE, IEC) for battery systems
  • Expertise in design verification, validation, and testing for battery systems
  • Proficiency in writing technical reports and documenting field quality findings
  • Strong communication skills
  • Technical mentorship experience (management experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with basic scripting, data engineering and visualization using python or other relevant tools
  • Experience engaging with battery suppliers and evaluating different battery technologies
