Description For Senior Systems Safety Engineer

Wisk is at the forefront of transforming urban mobility through their innovative approach to all-electric, autonomous flight. As a Senior Systems Safety Engineer, you'll join a passionate team working on the cutting-edge of aviation technology, specifically within the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) engineering department.

The role involves ensuring the safety of aircraft operations in an urban air-mobility environment. You'll be responsible for developing comprehensive safety assessment processes, working with airworthiness authorities, and implementing critical safety strategies. This position reports to the Supervisor of Safety and Reliability Engineering and carries broad responsibility for analyzing all safety aspects of aircraft design.

Working in a hybrid model, you'll be required to be onsite at either the California or Montreal office 2-3 days per week, offering flexibility for remote work on other days. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $64 to $75 per hour, reflecting the high-level expertise required for this specialized role.

Key responsibilities include developing System Safety Plans, managing safety assessment processes, and ensuring compliance with aviation safety regulations. You'll work closely with engineering teams to monitor design changes, define safety targets, and develop mitigation strategies.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of systems safety engineering experience (or 3 with a Master's degree), strong leadership capabilities, and deep knowledge of aviation safety standards and regulations. Experience with reliability analysis tools and FAA certification processes is crucial.

Responsibilities For Senior Systems Safety Engineer

  • Develop System Safety Plan following SAE/ARP-4754A and SAE/ARP-4761 guidelines
  • Understand and implement safety regulatory requirements
  • Manage System Safety Plan implementation and coordinate with engineering programme management
  • Define safety targets using airworthiness regulations
  • Liaise with airworthiness authority and Designated Engineering Representative
  • Verify implementation of mitigation strategies and provide recommendations

Requirements For Senior Systems Safety Engineer

  • B.S. in engineering with 5 years of experience in systems safety engineering; or 3 years with Master's degree
  • Experience leading technical teams with excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of design safety engineering principles for safety critical systems
  • Experience with ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882
  • Understanding of FAA certification processes and vehicle systems design
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Experience with Reliability Analysis tools like APIS, CAFTA, Reliability Workbench
