As a Staff Controls Engineer, you'll join their Control Laws Development Team, working on cutting-edge autonomous flight technology in a hybrid work environment based in Mountain View, CA, or Montreal, Canada.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of urban air mobility, working on complex control systems for autonomous aircraft. You'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and analyzing controls algorithms, state estimation methods, and self-flying autonomous software. The position requires expertise in aeronautical engineering, control theory, and programming, particularly with MATLAB and Simulink.

Your work will directly impact the development of prototype and full-scale airplanes, including hands-on involvement in flight testing new algorithms. As part of the Aircraft IPT organization, you'll contribute to developing safe autonomous flight vehicles while following aviation certification processes and utilizing formal controls analysis techniques.

Responsibilities For Staff Controls Engineer

  • Develop flight software models and improve existing models within the Control Laws Development Team
  • Support Aerodynamics, Structures, Stability&Control, and Vehicle Management Software Teams
  • Support problem solving activities following flight tests on Subscale prototype vehicle
  • Coordinate analysis activities to support verification of design requirements
  • Develop new GNC tools using software best practices in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Work with Model-Based Design Team on software development and verification
  • Support SIL/HIL and flight test operations activities
  • Run closed-loop simulations within flight physics simulation engine
  • Improve software design models after analyzing logged results

Requirements For Staff Controls Engineer

  • M.S. or PhD. in Aeronautical/Aerospace or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of industry experience
  • Previous work on a GNC team and strong knowledge control theory
  • Hands-on experience creating control laws algorithms
  • Strong MATLAB programming & Simulink modeling skills
  • Deep knowledge of fixed wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics and aircraft flight dynamics
  • Strong simulation background for testing control laws in a 6DOF environment
  • Experience leading teams that achieved certification of their control laws
  • Familiarity with Subpart B certification rules and means of compliance
