Data and Infrastructure Engineer

As a Data and Infrastructure Engineer on the multimodal team, you'll be instrumental in developing and optimizing critical data pipelines that handle diverse data types. Your work will directly impact the company's ability to process and utilize petabyte-scale multimedia data effectively.

Key responsibilities include building tools for multimedia data acquisition, developing high-throughput data processing systems, and creating efficient data loading pipelines for large-scale training of multimodal models. You'll also be responsible for building visualization and management tools for all in-house datasets.

The ideal candidate brings expert-level experience in developing software for large-scale distributed machine learning systems, with particular expertise in Spark, GPUs, Kubernetes, and JAX (or PyTorch). You should be well-versed in software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, and have a strong commitment to code quality, testing, and performance.

The role offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 - $440,000 USD and is based in the Bay Area, with locations in San Francisco and Palo Alto. The interview process is thorough and includes an initial phone screening followed by four technical interviews, including research discussions, coding interviews, and a presentation of your past work and vision for xAI.
