Data Engineer

xAI is on a mission to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. As a Data Engineer, you'll be part of a small, highly motivated team focused on engineering excellence.

The role involves building petabyte-scale, high-throughput data processing systems, managing workloads across large cloud compute clusters, and pre-processing datasets for AI training. You'll work in a flat organizational structure where all employees are hands-on and contribute directly to the company's mission.

The ideal candidate should have strong engineering skills with a passion for improving different aspects of data and model development. Experience with multiple data modalities beyond text is highly valued. You'll be working with cutting-edge technologies and be responsible for designing and implementing distributed systems in Rust, building custom data processing libraries, and managing data across multiple clouds.

The interview process is thorough and technical, consisting of initial screening followed by four technical interviews including coding assessment, systems hands-on, project deep-dive, and team meet-and-greet. All interviews are conducted directly by the team via Google Meet.
