Xayn AG, an innovative AI startup born from research at Oxford University and Imperial College London, is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join their Legal AI technology team. The company, founded in 2017, has secured €19.5M in funding and is revolutionizing the legal tech space with Noxtua, Europe's first sovereign Legal AI platform.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you'll be part of the AI Team led by Felix (Head of AI), collaborating with approximately 5 AI experts. The role focuses on developing cutting-edge AI solutions in natural language processing and privacy-preserving machine learning for legal applications. You'll work with state-of-the-art technologies including transformer models, RAG systems, and various AI frameworks.
The position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative legal AI solutions while being part of a highly academic team (30% PhDs). You'll be responsible for developing scalable machine learning systems, optimizing NLP applications, and creating sophisticated AI pipelines. The tech stack includes modern tools like LangChain, HuggingFace, PyTorch, and various cloud infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities For Senior AI Engineer (m/f/d)
- Develop and deploy scalable machine learning systems, focusing on privacy-preserving AI
- Build and optimize NLP applications using transformer models like BERT, GPT, and RAG
- Create workflows using agentic frameworks for automated context-aware decision making
- Optimize models for resource efficiency using techniques like quantization, pruning and distillation
- Develop AI pipelines, including retrieval-augmented generation systems
- Conduct benchmarking and evaluation of large language models (LLMs)
- Work with vector databases and manage data processing pipelines
Requirements For Senior AI Engineer (m/f/d)
- Eligible to work in Germany or within the EU
- English proficiency at C2 level
- Experience in AI development with at least 3 successfully deployed projects
- Expertise in developing and deploying NLP and generative AI models
- Solid experience with open-source models (e.g., LLAMA, Mistral, Cohere)
- Knowledge in building RAG systems
- Strong Python skills and experience with AI pipelines
- Familiarity with data processing, filtering, and augmentation
