Description For Principal Engineer - Inventory

Xero is seeking a Principal Engineer to join their Inventory team, working on revitalizing their inventory offering. This is a global role working with teams across New Zealand and America, focusing on upgrading legacy systems and coordinating complex changes across the Xero product. The position involves leading multiple engineering teams, collaborating with other Principal Engineers, and working closely with Engineering Managers and Product teams. The role combines technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on development work.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in C#/.NET, modern development practices, and cloud-native platforms. They will be responsible for driving engineering excellence, implementing quality standards, and ensuring best practices across teams. The role involves both technical implementation and leadership aspects, including mentoring other engineers and contributing to engineering standards.

Responsibilities For Principal Engineer - Inventory

  • Work on multi-team initiatives to improve software creation and delivery
  • Design and author code, driving proof of concepts and solving technical problems
  • Promote quality engineering strategy and standards
  • Implement practices and tooling to prevent systemic issues
  • Create and promote engineering standards and frameworks
  • Coach and mentor engineers across multiple disciplines
  • Ensure deployment pipelines are fit for purpose
  • Champion agile and delivery practices

Requirements For Principal Engineer - Inventory

PHP
  • Experience with C#/.NET and modern development practices
  • Knowledge of PHP (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to review delivery and production metrics
  • Experience in quantifying technical debt
  • Extensive technical leadership experience on cloud-native platforms
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers
