Description For DFM Project Engineer

As a DFM Project Engineer at Xometry, you'll play a crucial role in evaluating the manufacturability of customer designs across various industries including aerospace, defense, commercial, automotive, industrial, and medical devices. You'll develop sourcing strategies, aid in production troubleshooting, and interface with machine shops, sheet metal fabrication shops, internal staff, and customers. Your responsibilities will include expanding manufacturing partner network capabilities and improving core competencies.

Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years in engineering and manufacturing
  • 1-2 years of manufacturing engineering experience, focusing on Injection Molding
  • Knowledge of equipment selection, process cycle times, material limitations, and costs
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to identify design for manufacturing (DFM) issues
  • Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving abilities

Additional valuable experience includes knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, post-processing finishes, specialty processes, and material selection. The role requires working in a fast-paced startup environment and the ability to adapt quickly to solve production issues.

Responsibilities For DFM Project Engineer

  • Evaluate manufacturability of customer designs across various industries
  • Develop and implement applicable sourcing strategies
  • Aid production in troubleshooting order execution to ensure customer success
  • Interface with machine shops, sheet metal fabrication shops, internal staff, and customers
  • Take on special projects to expand manufacturing partner network capabilities
  • Work with OEM equipment makers and internal experts to improve core competencies
  • Identify design for manufacturing (DFM) issues based on CAD models and drawings
  • Work with customers to solve problems quickly
  • Troubleshoot production issues and answer partner questions

Requirements For DFM Project Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, technical or related field
  • 5+ years in engineering and manufacturing environment
  • 1-2 years of manufacturing engineering experience with a focus on Injection Molding
  • Knowledge of equipment selections, process cycle times, material limitations and costs, and geometry limitations
  • Experience working with suppliers, OEM equipment providers, and customers
  • Knowledge of GD&T and inspection/QA practices
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to identify design for manufacturing (DFM) issues based on CAD models and drawings
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment
