Description For AI Software Systems Engineer

Zoox, a pioneering company in autonomous vehicle technology, is seeking a Senior AI Software Systems Engineer to join their Software Systems Engineering team. This role represents a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of the world's first robotaxi that has operated on public roads.

The position sits at the intersection of software development and safety engineering, requiring expertise in both domains. You'll be responsible for ensuring that all safety-critical software meets rigorous production standards while working on groundbreaking autonomous vehicle technology. The role involves close collaboration with both software and safety teams to maintain high integrity levels in all systems.

Key responsibilities include developing and managing functional and fault requirements, implementing traceability systems, participating in risk assessments, and managing fault metrics. You'll play a crucial role in defining appropriate system responses to various fault conditions and work to improve overall system safety and availability.

The ideal candidate brings at least 5 years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or related mission-critical fields, along with an advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Strong understanding of software safety strategies and fault management systems is essential. Experience with industry safety standards such as ISO26262 and SOTIF 21448 is highly valued.

Zoox offers a competitive compensation package including a base salary range of $160,000 to $225,000, Amazon RSUs, and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. Responsibilities For AI Software Systems Engineer

  • Derive testable functional and fault requirements and plan for verification and validation as well as traceability strategies
  • Define and implement end-to-end traceability between various artifacts
  • Participate in risk assessment activities and provide evidence to the safety case
  • Actively engage with the safety team to define appropriate response for faulty conditions
  • Participate in data analysis for frequently occurring faults
  • Generate, track and report on fault metrics on a regular cadence

Requirements For AI Software Systems Engineer

  • Advanced degree in robotics, computer engineering, electronics engineering, aerospace engineering or related fields
  • 5+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerospace, automotive or related mission-critical fields
  • Prior experience in the AV industry or other complex systems
  • Familiarity with diagnostics and fault management systems
  • Understanding of software safety strategies, failure modes
  • Experience in developing and managing system and software requirements documents and architecture documents
