How do I scope out a project and plan to implement it from start to finish?

Hi everyone, I’ve spent 6 months at Meta, and I don’t have a project for next half. I want to scope out my project for next half from the roadmapping so I can demonstrate E4 level?

I’m very new to this. How do I do it, and can you share resources that can help me?

An E3 that's 6 months in shouldn't be scoping out entire major projects to take up their half. I know that the PSC bar has gone up since the layoffs, but it shouldn't be that high. Can you talk to your manager and tech lead to figure out what's lying around on the roadmap and could use some extra hands?

To answer your question though (nothing wrong with developing this advanced behavior early), scoping out a project is a multi-step process:

    1. Find a problem to solve - Follow the advice here to learn how to do that: "How do I come up with innovative, impactful ideas and bring them to my team?"
    2. Come up with a solution and break it down - This course can help: System Design Masterclass: Shipping Real Features To Production
    3. Socialize your proposal - Unfortunately I don't have a great resource here (I will make a course about this). This is the best I can find: "How can I minimize thrash when I present technical designs for my projects?"

Thank you so much Alex. I spoke with my manager and I will collaborate with more experienced engineers on my team for this.

I understand it might be early, but I also want to develop E4 level skills since I will have to be working as an E4 after a year.
