How to talk about impact in resume when the work was on internal tools?

Most of my work in the last 3 years has been on internal tools. It's not quite infra level and its also not quite business level/product focused stuff.

I'm not sure how to quantify impact here.

    Here are some thoughts:

    • Can you quantify the time saved on your projects? You can compare the time it used to take before you built out the tool versus after you built out the tool.
    • Can you quantify the scope of your project by how many engineers were affected? You can talk about how many engineers you worked with or how many engineers are using your internal tool.
    • There must have been a good reason to build the internal tool, so I would lean into that as much as you can.

The main one is how many employees at your company use those tools, particularly engineers.

Aside from that, it's pretty context specific. If you can share what kind of tools you're working on (build speed, testing, linter), I'm happy to share more specific ideas.
