Hello Everyone, I have 16+ years of Software Engineering and 6+ years of Engineering management experience. I have worked in 14 different companies (ranging from startups to FAANG --> my linkedin). And I really enjoy helping engineers grow, building teams and fostering the team culture.

Currently I am an Engineering Manager at Meta and I am interested to prepare a course that will benefit the highest amount of people on this platform.

Could you please pick the course (just comment with 1-10 number or suggest your title) from this list that you would like Taro to have:

  1. Top 10 secrets of becoming an engineer managers like
  2. How to be the top engineer of the team?
  3. How to become an engineer that grows faster than anyone?
  4. How to be an ideal engineer that manager wants to promote?
  5. Top 10 mistakes engineers are usually doing in communication with their managers
  6. The Hidden Pitfalls in Engineer-Manager Communication (and How to Avoid Them)
  7. What Your Manager Wishes You Knew: Essential Communication Tips for Engineers
  8. Cracking the Code of Manager-Engineer Communication: Common Mistakes and Solutions
  9. How To Transition To M1
  10. How To Be A Strong M1

I like #9, the course about transitioning to manager (M1), although we could workshop the title:

    • Engineers often think about whether to move into management, whether now or in the future. The course would be helpful for them.
    • Managers will be interested in their own transition and what they could have done better
    • I also think you're uniquely equipped to talk about this topic since you've worked at so many top companies: Netflix, Google, Meta, Snap

As an IC with no interest in management, I’d go for #7. But I’d also be interested in a course like “Reasons and Ways to Avoid Becoming a Manager” because it seems like it almost takes effort to stay IC from what I’ve heard

I'm most interested in #8: Cracking the Code of Manager-Engineer Communication: Common Mistakes and Solutions

Currently there is no course on Taro that deals with this specific aspect. There is a communication course (havent gone through that one yet!) but your manager is the most important person in your career. Being able to develop the skills to communicate better with manager is something I am interested in

Especially as someone more junior, it's hard to understand the manager's "perspective" because most of what juniors do is focus on coding not managing

As a manager, I would be interested in 9 and 10.

The transition is one part but how to become a strong and effective manager is also critical.

5-8 seem like the same thing, but I think that overall bundle would be the most interesting/applicable, especially if we workshopped the title well.

I personally like 9 and 10 as well. That's sort of my "2nd tier" of preference.
