    Another way to approach this -- start with a friend who you want to build with and you could learn from. Once you have alignment that you're doing something in AI/ML, you should be open to any project. The learning will happen while you work with your friend/colleague.

    For a learning roadmap, I recommend this: "How to build depth as a machine learning engineer?"

    Zooming out, I don't think there's such a thing as a 100% concrete "roadmap" for something as complex as an entire technical domain. The much more actionable advice is to take on AI/ML IC tasks within your current company. In your scenario, there's 2 things you need to do:

    1. Get back into coding
    2. Figure out how to an effective IC for AI/ML tasks
