Moving Amazon Internship from Summer to Spring

I have gotten an offer for a security engineering internship from Amazon for Summer 2025. However I have already signed an offer with a unicorn. I was wondering if I could move this Summer internship to Spring so I can have the potential to get experiences in both?

    If you can, hell yeah.

You might as well try - You already have the signed unicorn offer, so it's pretty much impossible to fail here. I've seen interns able to pull this off successfully.

If they aren't able to move it, make sure to stay in touch with the recruiter/hiring manager and see if you can interview with them again in the future. Maybe they'll let you skip some amount of the interview if it's for another intern position.

Congrats on getting 2 quality offers! The economy is super rough right now, so you're definitely doing far better than the average student.

Hey thanks Alex! Who should I contact to do this and what should I send in the email?

I imagine the recruiter is the primary point of contact, so email them I guess? I would say something like:

"Thank you so much for the opportunity - I've had a great time talking to you and the team! Unfortunately, I already have another internship booked for summer by now. I would love to work at Amazon though, so is it possible to intern in the spring instead?

No worries at all if this isn't possible - I really appreciate everything you've all done for me already. If this is the case, I would love to stay in touch and reconnect in 3 months!"

      Components:

      1. Make it clear you appreciate their time and make them feel good about themselves
      2. Firmly lay down the conflict
      3. Try to keep the door open for future opportunities if it turns out they can't move it

Hey, sorry forgot to mention, the Amazon Security Engineering internship happens typically in the Summer and not in the Spring/Fall unlike software engineering. Should I still reach out to the recruiter and what additional things should I add to the email template below to make it more convincing?

Eh, I think you can still try unless it's actually impossible to do it outside of summer. Just mention that you already know it's done in summer and would appreciate an exemption.
