Hi - I am selected as Senior Engineer in Linkedin Marketing Solutions team. I have close to 12 years of experience and masters in US. I want to be prepared as the recruiter is working towards my package. My question is:
Given your 12 years of experience + Master's, are you sure that you weren't just hired for Staff? It makes no sense to have the internal level be 4 and the title be Senior. 12 YOE is on the higher end of senior, so I honestly think you're just getting hired at Staff.
For the US, $400k - $500k for LinkedIn Staff sounds about right. LinkedIn tends to pay lower than the top of FAANG (mainly just Meta). On a side note, platform engineers at LinkedIn get paid more than product engineers by around 10%, so if you're platform, go for something more like $450k - $550k at Staff.
Anyways, here's our negotiation course to help with all this: The Insider's Guide To Negotiating Your Tech Salary And Compensation
Congrats on getting the offer! LinkedIn is an amazing tech company.
What is the location for your LinkedIn offer? I don't have a range to give you for strong comp, but for a company as large as LinkedIn (i.e. Microsoft), they are guaranteed to have fairly well-defined bands of salary and equity based on level, location, and role. This is what I discuss in Determine Levers You Can Pull.
Your goal is to identify what that range is from the recruiter, and then aim for the top of the band (or even exceed the top end!). You can do this by asking questions like this:
I'd love to understand the different components of the offer and what you are most easily able to adjust? I'm hoping we can create a win-win scenario based on my own goals for growing at LinkedIn and having tons of impact.
@rahul pandey - I just finished your course 'Negotiating Your Tech Salary And Compensation' yesterday and thanks for your reply.** To be specific, the title i interviewed for is, senior data engineer role. But,the recruiter has confirmed me that, the role is IC4/9. I have read from Blind that, unlike other companies, Linkedin pays data engineers same as SWE. I hope this is true. My primary office location will be San Francisco and hybrid ( 3 days a week).
On the other note, i was skeptical when i initially paid for Taro, whether i will use it this much, though it had great content. You have got a lifelong member here! thanks for the amazing help, you guys are doing!
