A few compelling side project ideas I've had. (I have no idea how hard these would be.)

    • Data app (mobile): hyper-local app which looks at city council notes, building proposals, or other changes and makes them mobile-friendly and actionable.
    • Data app (mobile): see the compensation of executives of public companies (this is all public info)
    • Spend app (mobile): app that tracks my location and deduces which store I'm at, then tells me which credit card to use to maximize my points
    • Rewards app (web): given my data and preferences, a personalized AI or tool which tells me how to maximize the rewards from my credit cards, e.g. how to get better travel perks, status on hotels, etc.
      • I know I'm not optimizing my reward spend today, but it feels daunting to figure out what I should do.

Back in the day, I wanted to build an app that would tell me the carbon footprint of a given choice. My original idea was to do it for my food choices, but it can also be done for flights or if you drive a gas car or even for things like time spent on ChatGPT or mining bitcoins.

In terms of accountability, these approaches can really help you stay committed:

    1. How will pulling off this app make you feel about yourself?
    2. How does it align with your career aspirations or higher aspirations on how you want to live your life and the impact you want to make.
      1. If you can envision this and stay focused on the outcome, it does wonders for commitment.
    3. How will it change the story you tell about your life to yourself and others?

Nearly every commitment in my life has its roots deep in one of these questions.
