When to first mention intent to return in 1:1 meeting with manager

I will be joining Meta this summer as an intern. After watching the Taro videos regarding the intern success series, I learned the importance of making it clear to the manager about my intention to return to the company for a full time job. I was wondering about the appropriate time to first mention this topic to the manager.

Assuming a 12 week internship, would somewhere around Week 4 be a good time, or is it necessary to bring it up even earlier?

I was thinking that it would be better to at least make some nontrivial progress on the intern project beforehand, but not sure.

Week 1: every intern is more or less trying to get a return offer, so I'd be more upfront for internship return offers (since it's more normal compared to something like a staff level promo).

I would be more upfront. You could phrase it as a question, something like:

One of my goals is to be a strong performer to earn a return offer. Could you share what you've seen as a general trajectory for a strong intern in terms of their project progress? What other behaviors should I focus on?

This has the benefit of showing your intent to return while also looking for feedback.
