[Paypal] T26 Staff Engineer - Compensation Benchmarks

Hello,
I'm speaking to a recruiter at PayPal and expecting to have the compensation discussion with them. I would like to know from folks at Paypal at Taro what is a reasonable range regarding compensation numbers at this level.

Levels.fyi (paypal) tells me there is a high sample point of TC at $473K with the average being $335K . I couldn't find the median, which would have helped as a more representative approximation.

Please share any insights you might have.

Thanks!

So I worked at PayPal, and that sounds about right. Overall, PayPal is a successful company that pays above average, but it simply can't compete with Meta. Most E5s at Meta now are at minimum $450k TC (the stock has done quite well over the past 2 years), and it will be very hard for PayPal to beat that unless they dramatically uplevel you from senior.

Again, PayPal is a storied, incredible company overall, but I consider it a rung below Meta frankly having worked at both. I personally wouldn't go from Meta -> PayPal unless you are really pushing for more work-life balance (and I don't know if PayPal can provide that either as they're also doing layoffs).

All that being said, I highly recommend the negotiation course: The Insider's Guide To Negotiating Your Tech Salary And Compensation

Thanks. Moving towards a better WLB is one of my reasons for considering Paypal. I also feel that I could grow my career further at Paypal.

I was in the process of going through the Negotiations course. Great stuff and insights there.
