Considering that multiple candidates are under consideration, when speaking to a Hiring Manager during team match at Meta, is there something one can do to maximize their chances of getting picked during the Team Match call? It feels like a lost cause otherwise if you have put in all the effort to clear the interviews, but do not successfully match with a team. Apart from showing the excitement, and being inquisitive during the call, what are some qualities in a candidate that could stand out?
For a Staff Engineer like you, you'll be expected to join a team and be a technical leader. So that's what I'd focus on in your call -- talk about your prior experience and why it's a great fit for the new team.
Share ideas for what you could do and what projects may be interesting.
I explain why you should focus on joining the first team you get matched into: How to navigate through team matching with Meta?
Treat it as a behavioral interview. The difference with a team match interview vs. a "regular" behavioral interview is that the balance shifts more towards you asking questions instead of you getting asked questions.
This means that you need to make sure that the questions you ask convey a lot of value about yourself, ideally E6 signals. Follow the advice from my behavioral interview course, particularly the "Questions To Ask" section: Master The Behavioral Interview As A Software Engineer
Make sure to do a lot of research on each team and its domain. Weave the evidence of that homework into your questions.
